A DAY OF WELLNESS

There is something about living near the ocean that naturally teaches you how to slow down. Something that reminds me how life is supposed to feel: softer, calmer, more present. My day-to-day isn’t about being “perfect” or hyper-productive. It’s about showing up for myself in little ways to make my life feel good from the inside out. Here are some things I’ve implemented into my routine that have genuinely changed my life for the better.

MORNING SUNSHINE BEFORE SCROLLING

My mornings are so sacred. Before I go on my phone or open a laptop, I make sure to take an hour of “zen time” where I go outside with a journal, a book, and my coffee, and soak up the morning sunlight. Even just 10-20 minutes completely changes my mood for the rest of the day. It’s such a simple ritual, but it truly sets the tone for everything. When you start your day grounded instead of rushed, your nervous system stays calmer all day long.

MOVEMENT

Getting some movement every single day is a MUST for me. But I do not believe in forcing workouts you hate. Movement should feel good, like something you want to do, not something you are punishing yourself with. For me, that looks like an hour of walking outside every day listening to music or a podcast as well as 30 minutes of Pilates or Yoga, depending on what my body is craving. I also love surfing and taking dance classes when my schedule allows. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Just find ways to move your body that you genuinely enjoy, and you will have a much easier time staying consistent.

NOURISH FIRST, COFFEE SECOND

This was a game changer for me. I always used to have coffee first thing in the morning, but now I always make sure to have some breakfast before my coffee. Feeding your body first helps stabilize energy, hormones, and mood. And WATER. I aim for about a gallon of water a day, but I have definitely worked my way up to it, and it is amazing how much better I feel with just incorporating this simple habit.

SLOW EVENINGS

I try to unplug as much as possible at night. This usually looks like slow showers and gentle skincare, reading, and listening to calm instrumentals while having candles lit to create a calm environment as I wind down from the day.

WELLNESS ISN'T ABOUT RULES

These habits may seem overwhelming to think about incorporating into your daily routine, but you have to shift your perspective on it. It is not discipline, it’s self care. I don’t do these things because I “should,” but because my body feels so much better when I do. It is about slowing down and listening to your own body, and learning how to show up for yourself in little ways that will have big impacts over time. You got this!

With warmth & sunshine,
